Episode 7.5

Episode 7.5 is the fifth episode of the seventh season of Primeval.

Synopsis[]

The team goes after Abby after she is knocked through an anomaly. However, while the team is rescuing Abby, Jack and Darren are kidnapped by unknown assailants.

Plot[]

Two hikers are hiking through a forest when they spot an anomaly opening up. They go to investigate it, but once they are standing in front of the anomaly, a Yutyrannus comes through the anomaly and attacks the pair, dragging them both through the anomaly and killing them.

Meanwhile, at the A.R.C, Michael reminisces about what he saw during the Andrewsarchus incursion. Jenny checks on him, noticing how he seems unfocused, and is about to ask what is bothering him when the Minister arrives asks to talk to him. Michael reluctantly walks over to the Minister, but before the Minister can inquire about his strange behaviour, the anomaly detector goes off. Jess locates the anomaly to a forest in a nature reserve and the team heads down there to secure it.

When they arrive, the team secures the anomaly, but before Connor can lock it, an Incisivosaurus runs past the team and pushes Abby through the anomaly. Connor tries to go after Abby, but Becker and Darren restrain him. As the two men struggle to hold Connor back, Jack tries to make a break for the anomaly, but Matt and Danny quickly stop him before he can even take a single step. Matt then makes the call to send a team through the anomaly to rescue Abby, with him leading the rescue mission. Sarah, Jack, and Darren are to stay and stand guard around the anomaly while Jenny and Michael go back to the A.R.C to fill Lester in on the details. Everyone agrees before splitting off into their respective groups.

Meanwhile, back at the A.R.C, Jess informs Lester, Elizabeth, and the Minister about what had happened. Lester makes a comment about the situation before the Minister gets a phone call. He excuses himself, Jenny and Michael arrive and gives Lester a detailed account of the incident.

Meanwhile, in Cretaceous China, Abby wakes up from rolling down the hill the anomaly stands over and finds herself being investigated by a pack of curious Mei long. She stands up, scaring the troodonts away before trekking through the forest. As she tries to find a way up the hill, she encounters a pair of Yutyrannus, who then attack her. Her screams echo through the forest as the rescue team exits the anomaly (with Connor almost rolling down the hill) and they run toward her screams.

Meanwhile, on the present-side of the anomaly, Jack tells Darren that he must go through, but Darren and Sarah tell him that he might cause more trouble for the rescue operation with his emotions running wild at the moment and convinces him to not go. Jack reluctantly agrees before telling them about what he saw Elizabeth do. However, before he can delve further on what he saw, they hear something approaching them before they are attacked by a man. Sarah is knocked out by the man and as Jack and Darren are about to shoot the man with their EMDs, another man appears behind them and knocks them out. With the three now unconscious, the two men carry Jack and Darren away from the anomaly while leaving Sarah behind.

Back at the A.R.C, Elizabeth gets a phone call and after asking a few seconds of talking, she hangs up on the caller before going to the Menagerie. As she looks over the Columbian Mammoth, Sid, and Nancy, a sinister smile forms on her lips.

Back in Prehistoric China, the team find Abby and shoots the Yutyrannus pair, scaring them away. As they check Abby for any major injuries, Danny realizes that they forgot to mark their path. Now lost, the team wanders through the Cretaceous forest, and after finding a vantage point, they figure out which way they need to go. However, they also spot a volcano that looks like it's about to blow, so they quickly head in the direction of the anomaly. On their way, however, they encounter an Incisivosaurus, which is swiftly killed by a subadult Yutyrannus. As the subadult Yutyrannus is about to feast on its kill, it notices and snarls at them. The team aim their EMDs at the tyrannosaur, which decides to attack them. The team scatters and the Yutyrannus trips over a log, causing it to entangle itself in some vines. The team watches as the tyrannosaur tangle itself in the vines before continuing on their way. As they walk back to the anomaly, a pack of Mei long arrive on the scene and begin to eat the dead Incinvosaurus.

Back in the present, Jack and Darren wake up and find themselves tired up in the back of a van and under the supervision of a mercenary soldier. They ask questions, but the soldier gives them a cold stare.

Meanwhile, in the Cretaceous, the team make it back to the anomaly site, but before they can get to the anomaly, one of the adult Yutyrannus attacks them. Connor and Becker fire their EMDs at it, but like with the Anderwsarchus' fur, the tyrannosaur's feather coat dampens the EMD charges' effect. Seeing that their plan isn't working, Matt orders everyone to fire their EMDs all at once. This knocks the Yutyrannus out, allowing the team to get to the anomaly.

Meanwhile, at the A.R.C, Jess receives a call from a frantic Sarah and as she tries to understand what she is saying, Jenny and Michael walk over to see what is wrong. Once Sarah gives Jess then news, she is shocked. Jenny asks Jess what's wrong, to which she tells her and Michael that Jack and Darren are missing. As she hacks into the CCTV feed, Lester walks over and asks what the situation is, to which Jenny fills him in. He then makes a snarky comment about the two boys before Jess finds the CCTV footage of Jack and Darren getting dumped in a white van. Suddenly, Eve, who was visiting her ill father again, calls Jess and asks her where the anomaly is, and Jess quickly directs Eve to the anomaly site's location.

Back at the anomaly site, the team exits the anomaly to find a frantic Sarah, who tells them that Jack and Darren are gone. Danny tries to calm Sarah down, but before he can do that, the other adult Yutyrannus come through the anomaly, right as it closes for good. Matt orders Danny to get answers later as their focus turns on containing the panicking Yutyrannus. The Yutyrannus flails wildly as it looks around for anything reminding it of its home before running towards the nature reserve's car park. The team gives chase and as it comes to a stop, Sarah and Emily fire their EMDs at the Yutyrannus. The tyrannosaur becomes irritated and begins to attack hikers and park-goers, and as the team try their best to steer the Yutyrannus back into the forest, Abby spots a mother and her child trapped in one of the parked cars. Despite the risk, Abby makes a break for the car. The Yutyrannus spots her and gives chase, but Danny quickly drives one of the A.R.C's SUVs into it, knocking it off of its feet and stunning it.

However, the Yutyrannus gets back up and runs wild. Just then, Eve arrives and tries to get the Yutyrannus to chase her. It spots her and chases her into the forest, nearly trampling a female hiker on the way in. Eve then leads the tyrannosaur through a treacherous part of the forest, where it slips on a rock and falls over, breaking its neck in the process. The rest of the team arrives on the scene. After exchanging some words, Eve notices that Darren is missing and inquires where her son is. She then notices everyone faces fall and asks them what had happened.

Later, at the A.R.C, Abby's gets her injuries treated and while Emily comforts a distraught Eve, everyone is called into Lester's office, where Jess shows them the footage of Jack and Darren's kidnapping. Lester then says that the second Matt could be behind this before Michael speaks up, telling everyone what he had saw during the Andrewsarchus incursion. He tells them that he saw the Minister speaking with Ethan about a plan, which he guesses was Jack and Darren's kidnapping, and tells them that there's a spy in the A.R.C. With this revelation, Lester tells the team that they must find out who the spy is or they might cause the fall of the A.R.C. Just then, the Minister enters Lester's office and asks if he's interrupting something while everybody stares at him, trying their best to not show their newfound distrust for him.

Cancelled Story Idea[]

Originally, the episode was to be entirely focused around Jack and a herd of Iguandons, which had come through an anomaly near Stonehenge, and the decisions he takes results in the deaths of several Iguanodons. A similar story was made for Season 8, but it didn't centre around Jack and no Iguanodons were killed.
