Episode 6.10

Episode 6.10 is the tenth and final episode of the sixth season of Primeval.

Synopsis[]

A pack of Camouflage Beasts attack the Menagerie after an anomaly suddenly opens up. Can the team rescue the creatures in time?

Plot[]

The episode starts where the previous episode had left off. It is revealed that a Camouflage Beast had attacked the Tapejara, breaking its wing before leaving its enclosure. The Tapejara remains motionless as the Camo Beast turns invisible.

Meanwhile, In the hub, everyone is preparing to go home when the anomaly detector goes off. Jess quickly runs over to the anomaly detector and is horrified to learn that the anomaly is in the Menagerie. She pulls up the CCTV feed and watches several Camouflage Beasts exiting the anomaly and camouflaging themselves. Matt, Connor, Abby, and Eve quickly join her, just having missed the Camo Beasts exiting the anomaly, and are shocked to learn of the anomaly's location. Jess tries to tell them about the Camo Beasts, but they quickly run off to gather Becker, Emily, Jack, Jenny, Michael, Danny, Darren, Anna, Ryan, and Kieran.

Later, after gearing up and getting to the Menagerie viewing deck, the team look into the Menagerie to see if there's anything wrong and Darren spots the Tapejara laying motionless in its enclosure. The team quickly rushes down to its enclosure, and while Connor locks the anomaly, Abby heads into the Tapejara's enclosure. However, when she is about to pick the Tapejara up, she is attacked by a Camo Beast. Luckily, Anna shoots it with her EMD, killing it with a lethal shot to the head. Abby quickly picks the Tapejara up, after checking it and confirming that it's still alive, before returning to the others. As they begin to make their way back to the viewing deck, several more Camo Beasts suddenly uncloak, distressing the other creatures with their presence. Things worsen as the T. rex roars, causing the other creatures to panic. Matt tells Connor, Anna, and Eve to get Abby and the Tapejara out while he and the others keep the Camo Beasts busy before they split up.

Meanwhile, Lester arrives in the hub, just having returned from his meeting with the Minister, and is surprised to see Jess sitting at the anomaly detector. He asks her why she's still in the A.R.C, noting that she's usually already gone at that point in the evening, to which she informs him about the Camo Beast incursion in the Menagerie. Lester joins her by the ADD and is left in shock as he watches the CCTV feed on the screen.

Back at the Menagerie, Abby's group successfully brings the Tapejara out of the Menagerie. They take it to the unused lab across the hall, where Abby sets up a temporary medical bay for the Menagerie creatures, before operating on the Tapejara's wing. After mending its wing, Abby puts it in a cage Connor had taken from the Menagerie lab before they head back to the Menagerie.

Meanwhile, back with Matt's group, one of the Camo Beasts is struck by an EMD blast and slams into a control panel controlling the Menagerie's security system, destroying it. This unlocks some of the enclosures and Rex, Sid, Nancy, the Dracorex, the Kaprosuchus, and the Raptor escape, destroying the anomaly locking device and unlocking the anomaly in the process. As Matt's group unsuccessfully try to contain the Dracorex, Kaprosuchus, and the Raptor, Rex, Sid, and Nancy slip past them and try to make their escape, but a Camo Beast blocks their escape route and corner them into an enclosure wall. As it prepares to kill them, Jenny spots it and shoots it in the back. The Camo Beast is half-conscious as she walks over and she shoots it in the chest, unknowingly killing it out. Connor, Abby, Eve, and Anna arrive and put the three into two cages; one for Rex and one for the Diictodons, before Abby and Jenny take them to the temporary medical bay, where they would be checked on and put in one large cage, while Connor, Eve, and Anna help Matt's group.

Back In the hub, Lester tells Jess that he's going down to the Menagerie to help out and grabs an earpiece before heading down to the armoury. There, he grabs a Type 4 EMD and some power cells before heading down to the Menagerie.

Back at the Menagerie, Darren and Michael capture the Silurian Scorpion and begins to haul it out of the Menagerie. However, a Camo Beast attacks Darren causing him to lose his footing and fall through the anomaly. Michael takes out the Camo Beast as Connor rushes over to help before the latter goes after Darren. Danny sees this and goes after Connor, prompting Matt to send Kieran and Ryan after him. However, during the commotion, one of the Camo Beasts slips through the doors the Dracorex had bashed open and enters the main building. Jess sees this on the CCTV feed and tries to warn the team. However, nobody hears her, as they have either don't have an earpiece or they are too busy dealing with the Camo Beasts and Menagerie creatures. Jess decides to take matters into her own hands and heads down to the armoury, where she grabs an EMD and heads out to find the Camo Beast. However, little did she knew, she had forgotten something very important.

Back at the Menagerie, Eve, Emily, Jack, and Anna rush over to help Michael get the scorpion out and Michael breaks the news about Darren to Eve. Worried for her son's safety, Eve tries to go through the anomaly but is held back by Emily and Anna. As she struggles to break free from their grasps, Michael tells her that Connor, Danny, Kieran, and Ryan have gone through to get him. Eve calms down and they begin to haul the scorpion out of the Menagerie.

Meanwhile, Matt and Becker take out the last Camo Beast and tosses it and the other Camo Beasts into an empty enclosure before going after the Dracorex, the Raptor, and the Kaprosuchus. As they exit into the hallway and round the corner to their right, they bump into the Raptor, who gets startled by their sudden appearance and tries to run away. However, Lester rounds the corner and knocks it out with his EMD, impressing both Matt and Becker. As Lester heads off to find Jess, after hearing her say something about a Camo Beast being loose in the A.R.C, Abby and Jenny arrive and they take it back to the temporary medical bay, where Abby checks it for any injuries before she and Jenny begin to muzzle it and tie it up to a cart.

Meanwhile, in the Future, Connor, Danny, Kieran, and Ryan, who are following Darren's footprints, exits the Future forest and into a desert, where they find Darren laying face-down on the ground. They wake him up, but as they are about to head back, they hear Camo Beast whispers in the trees and look around. Ryan randomly fires his EMD at a tree and almost hits a Camo Beast. The Camo Beast and its pack uncloak themselves and begin to attack them. Danny orders Kieran and Ryan to cover him and Connor as they get Darren back to the anomaly. When they get to the anomaly and go back to the present, Connor orders Kieran and Ryan to stand guard at the anomaly while he and Danny take Darren to the A.R.C medical bay. However, after Danny and Connor leave, Kieran and Ryan spot Eve, Emily, Anna, Michael, and Jack struggling to get the Silurian Scorpion out of the Menagerie and walk over to help them, leaving the anomaly unguarded. They get the scorpion out of the Menagerie and take to the temporary medical bay, just as Abby and Jenny are tying the Raptor onto the cart.

Meanwhile, Jess is quietly sneaking through the corridors, after spotting the Camo Beast round a corner earlier, and searches the corridor until she reaches a dead-end. She wonders if the Camo Beast had made a turn at one of the two intersections in the corridor before hearing the Camo Beast snarl. She looks up and spots the Camo Beast hanging upside down on the ceiling and quickly points her EMD at it. As it prepares to attack her, she pulls the trigger, but to her horror, it doesn't do anything. She checks the power cell compartment, only to find it empty, and can only watch in horror as the Camo Beast leaps at her. However, as it is about to pin her to the ground, Lester rounds the corner and shoots the Camo Beast several times, killing it and saving Jess. He then helps Jess up onto her feet and hands her a power cell before they head to the Menagerie.

In another part of the A.R.C, Matt and Becker round another corner and find themselves face to face with the Dracorex. It hisses at them, but they quickly knock it out. They then begin to drag it to the temporary medical bay, but as they drag it past the main hub, they hear the Kaprosuchus growl echo through the stairwell. Realizing that the Kaprosuchus had found its way to the car park, they leave the Dracorex where it is and head downstairs. When they arrive at the car park, they find the Kaprosuchus investigating Lester's Jaguar. The Kaprosuchus catches wind of their scent and runs towards them, preparing to attack. However, it is quickly taken it out by the duo, who then haul it over to the elevator and begin the long journy to the temporary medical bay.

Back at the Menagerie, a Camo Beast exits from the unguarded anomaly and begins to explore its new surroundings. It then spots the Terror Bird pacing around it its pen and begins to stalk it. After determining that it hasn't noticed its presence, the Camo Beast attacks the Terror Bird. However, the Terror Bird quickly throws it off of its back and, after recovering, kicks the Camo Beast in the face, stunning it. As the Camo Beast tries to recover, the Terror Bird bites its left arm, amputating it at the shoulder. The Camo Beast hisses in pain and tries to flee, but the Terror Bird bits its left leg, amputating it as well, before it can escape. The Camo Beast falls back into the Terror Bird enclosure and is mauled to death by the killer bird, who proceeds to feast on its fresh kill. However, before it can enjoy the first bite, Lester and Jess arrive and they shoot the Terror Bird unconscious before taking it to Abby with some help from Connor and Danny.

However, after they had left, a second pack of Camo Beasts exits the anomaly and proceeds explore the Menagerie. As they explore the Menagerie, the anomaly closes, and they target the Tree Creeper and attacks it. However, the Tree Creeper puts up a fight and scares the other Camo Beasts away, just as the team arrives to take the Tree Creeper from its enclosure. They knock it out and take it to Abby, but as they're about to enter the viewing deck, one of the Camo Beasts attacks Jack, slashing his back. However, Anna quickly shoots and kills the Camo Beast before helping Jack up. She then takes him to the A.R.C medical bay, leaving the others to haul the Tree Creeper to Abby.

However, as they begin to haul the Tree Creeper again, they hear a loud bang, followed by metal screeching and a roar, and turn around, only to watch in horror as the T. rex walks out through the hole in its enclosure fence. It then sets its sights on the Mammoth and attacks it. Lester, Jess, Emily, Kieran, and Michael quickly knock the T. rex out before it can harm the Mammoth, before knocking out the Mammoth. While Emily, Eve, and Michael haul the Tree Creeper to Abby, Lester tells Jess to call a transport down to the A.R.C.

A short time later, the transport vehicles arrive and the Mammoth and T. rex are loaded onto them and taken to a secure location with the other creatures, where they will be treated and taken care of until the Camo Beasts have been dealt with and the Menagerie can be repaired. With the anomaly closed and determining that the Camo Beasts are too dangerous to be left alive, the team is forced to put all of the Camo Beasts down, luring them with meat laced with rat poison. The remaining Camo Beasts take the bait and they soon die from the rat poison.

Three days later, after all of the enclosures have been repaired and upgraded with better failsafe measures, all the creatures are returned to their enclosures. As Lester watches the last of the creatures be released into their improved enclosures, he hears a squeak and finds a baby Camo Beast, which had slipped into the viewing deck while the team was busy getting the creatures out, hiding in the corner. He corners it and picks it up by the scruff before an idea pops into his mind. A few minutes later, he releases the baby Camo Beast into one of the empty enclosures and leaves. As Lester walks out of the Menagerie, the baby Camo Beast camouflages itself and begins to explore its new home. However, little does it know, the tag that Lester had tied onto its neck is brightly coloured, making it easy for everyone to keep spot it whenever it's camouflaged.

Lester arrives at the main hub, where the main team and other A.R.C staff are socializing, before clearing his throat. Everyone turns to him and he thanks everyone on the field team for their efforts in dealing with the Camo Beast incursion. Everyone applauds the field team, and after Lester tells everyone to get back to work, the lights suddenly go out. Everyone looks around in confusion before hearing an adult Camo Beast snarling. They look up to see the Camo Beast uncloaking itself, as it hangs upside down from the ceiling before it attacks them. Everyone scatters, but the Camo Beast pins Becker to the floor and begins to slash him. Abby kicks the Camo Beast in the face, causing it to get off of Becker, before being shot by a soldier. Abby and the rest of the field team then join Jenny's side as she tries to wake Becker up. However, he remains unresponsive, worrying everyone.

Cancelled story idea[]

Originally, the episode was planned to feature a new creature from the future alongside a pack of Camouflage Beast, and would've taken place at a playground, but producer Tim Haines felt that two incursions involving two creatures from the future would've been too much for the field team to handle, so he changed the story to be set in the Menagerie and scrapped the new creature from the Future. However, the idea of the new creature from the future was used in the next episode. The new creature turned out to be the Future eagle.
